How does A Child, A Promise work?
A Child, A Promise 's work is split in three different yet complementary entities:
1) The work on the field with the children which passes first by the evaluation of their needs, then the direct but punctual support, the regular support and finally the long term support.
2) Various functions in order to raise funds necessary for the work on the field. In short, to give ourselves the means to develop and especially to perpetuate our actions.
3) The information and awareness on the drastic situation of the children of the refugee camps.
For all this, A Child, A Promise often calls upon Arts, Music, Literature in short upon the Palestinian patrimony.
Scholarship Palestine
A scholarship for university studies at Paris IV Sorbonne Abu Dhabi was generously granted to a young Palestinian student from Ramallah, West Bank
It consists of a 3 years course leading to the licence, equivalent to a bachelor degree. The obtaining of this scholarship was made possible thanks to the support comitee of AD
However, lodging and transport are being taken care of by ACAP
Deeds for Lebanon
Donations in money were sent by ACAP to two different associations in Lebanon. Al Huda association and Saint Vincent de Paul both of which worked very closely in the relief of the displaced South population. In August 2006 ACAP participated in sending goods to the population of the South of Lebanon. Mr Douste-Blazy, Minister of Foreign Affairs chartered a humanitarian boat to Lebanon and thus allowed us to ship the products collected in France. (Medicines, food, sanitary products, clothes, diapers, etc.)
On the 10th of September, ACAP used the different donations sent for Lebanon in buying 2000 book cases for children, 2000 pencils kits, full of pencils, rubbers, rulers, etc. paper books also more then 9000 metres of cotton to make bed sheets.
Medicine for children was also donated in Amman and sent to Lebanon.
2000 book cases with each a pencil box full of crayons, erasers, pencil sharpeners, rulers, compasses, squares, writing pads etc were distributed to the children of the South via associations like Saint Vincent de Paul and Al Huda association. 9000 metres of cotn fabric were also sent in order to make sheets and pillow cases for their beds.
Thanks to the support comitee of Abu Dhabi, ACAP was able to obtain scholarships for 3 young Lebanese to the Sorbonne University of AD for a 3 years course up to the licence equivalent to the bachelor degree, including lodging and transport
Distribution of shoes to the children of the refugee camps of Lebanon
Thanks to its generous donators A Child, A Promise, bought, sent and distributed 2500 pair of shoes to the children of the refugee camps of Palestine in Lebanon, for the Holy feast of Ramadan, mainly to the Al Chamale camp and to the Borj Al Barajneh camp through the Arab and Palestinian Women League

Bethlehem Conservatory
1)The national Edward Said Conservatoire of Ramallah wishes to enlarge in a new branch in the town of Bethlehem, so sadly afflicted, impoverished and bruised.
Because we believe that culture and arts, in all their expressions, are the best way to open horizons, and that music, I quote Plato, "give a soul to our heart, wings to our thought and blossoming to our imagination" and like Wagner, that " music begins where the power of the words ceases" ACAP projects to raise funds to help in the construction of this establishment.
A concert and a dinner are being programmed in a European capital for this purpose.
2) Rest
The concert was organized on June the second 2008 at the UNESCO Palace in Paris under the high patronage of H.R.H Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein of Jordan.
Mrs. June Anderson the grand American lady of the Opera sang for the children of Bethlehem accompanied on the piano by Maestro Jeff Cohen.
Mrs. Carole Bouquet the spokes person of la VDE participated at the evening by reading texts from Rimbaud and René Char.
Two Palestinian youngsters came one from Ramallah and the second from Bethlehem and played who the cello and who the flute.
Mrs. Eve Ruggieri with the great humanity she is famous for presented the two young musicians.
This event met with a considerable success and ACAP collected enough funds for the board to start with the construction of the Conservatory.

Eductional centres | 31/12/2003
A Child, A Promise (ACAP) supported the work of Enfants Réfugiés du Monde (ERM) in Gaza enfantsrefugiesdumonde. ERM helps refugee children in several countries of the world by the setting of long and short term programs answering the problems of physical, psychological and social development notably by receiving them in their centres.
Thanks to the financial support of ACAP, ERM was able to see its project concerning the Gaza strip, the West Bank and the refugee camps of Lebanon ratified by the European Union. A Partnership between an association and the EU is possible only if the association brings 25 % of the global cost of the project itself.
Seven educational centres already present in the camps of Gaza and directed by ERM were compelled to shut their doors because of lack of means. They were reopened thanks to A Child, A Promise 's financial support, thus allowing the chidlren to reintegrate their work and play space and the staff of these centres their work.
Means deployed

Ludobus | 20/04/2004
A part of the funds gathered during the first dinner was donated to Education and Play Children, a Palestinian association which purpose is to offer thousands of children in the Gaza strip the possibility to have a space for ludic activities as well as psychological support.
A Child, A Promise made it possible for the Ludobus to be functional. It is a mobile centre which goes to meet the children unable to join us for health reasons or for other reasons, bringing them entertainments and games.
Yearly trip to France | 07/07/2004
Hosting in Paris, eight children of the refugee camps of Lebanon was made possible, with two of their teachers for a week, two summers at a row for what we called since " A fairy tale trip"... The first journey took place summer 2004, the second in 2005. The choice of the children is difficult, it is done upon particular criteria, age, maturity, scholastic efforts and assiduity to the centres.
These children never left their camps before their trip to France. This journey encouraged a lot of them and gave them a little more confidence and hope in their future. ACAP aims to follow them until they finish schools and or university.
Now this trip has become a yearly rendezvous...

Borj Al Barajneh Centre Beirut | 30/09/2005
In September 2005, the centre directed by Enfants Réfugiés du Monde in the refugee camp of Borj Al Barajneh in Beirut was entirely refurbished thanks to ACAP supported by the CCC Beirut Lebanon.
The centre, which hosts daily 200 children between 6 and 12 years of age, was in an insalubrious state. Humidity was corroding the walls. The diluvial winter rains of the winter pouring on a cracked roof, the total absence of pipe tubes and heating made of it a place utterly unhealthy for the children and the team looking after them.
Bibliobus | 31/01/2006
A Bibliobus was created. The Bibliobus proceeds in the same spirit of the Ludobus. It is the sibyllline of a mobile library and offers the children books, multimedia interactive CDs and even stories written by children from the camps
Reading afternoons are hence organized by the animators of the Play and Education association. This way, reading becomes more and more integrated in the daily life of the Palestinian children and becomes less an out of reach luxury.
The donations of the second diner in November 2005 have allowed to realize this project, you can find its description after Khan Younes project.
